GPS

So far I find the GPS a fun and useful tool, but not as essential as map and compass. Meaning, you can leave it at home. Or do as I mostly do - choose a really basic and light one.

Small, cheap and light. My GPS is ridiculously out of date.

Comments and current insights: I use a very basic GPS. On longer trips I do not want to entrust myself totally to a battery-operated gadget and leave my map at home. And if I do not do that, I see little advantage with having the map in the GPS. Bottom line: A light and basic GPS that does what I need it to do. However, as technology evolves, I will get a newer one that picks up the satellites a bit faster. So this part of the website will certainly evolve. But a more detailed update is found in the book.
