Light

There is not always a need to carry a light, if you live far north and hike in summer. But if it is dark at least a couple of hours every night, a small flashlight might be an important safety measure.

When it gets dark at night I bring my 65 gram Petz Tikka head lamp.

Comments and current insights: There are lots of light and cheap LED-lights available at the super market or gas station. An excellent safety measure if you do not plan to use your light much. For manual work at night (if something breaks) or reading in the tent a head lamp is worth its weight, in my opinion. There are lighter ones than the one above and cheaper ones as well, but going from 60 grams to 20 grams is not urgent, in my view. I have heavier objects that I can save more weight on.
